While skiing in Japan on Praxis Powderboads this past winter, two of the guys I linked up with happened to be on different Praxis powder ski models as well. Needless to say, but the three of us were beyond thrilled to be skiing some of the best powder we had ever had the pleasure of skiing, on the best tools we have collectively ever used to ski pow.
If you’re looking for a screaming deal on a pair of brand spanking new handmade skis then you best not waste anymore time and head right over to Praxis and check out what they have going on or check CleanSnipe.
For more than eight years Praxis Skis has been producing some of the best “microbrewed” skis available in the ski industry. Handcrafted on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe Praxis was started by owner and operator Keith O’Meara with a vision to make the best skis possible for individual skiers looking for the perfect tool to ski park, backcountry terrain and of course powder. Here’s what Keith has to say about the Praxis worldview:
“We are constantly striving to challenge norms within the ski industry. Being at the forefront of the “Rocker Revolution”, the skis we develop are not your ordinary skis. Our use of progressive shapes and moldings has enabled us to develop skis that make skiing off-piste, powder, and variable conditions easy for even the intermediate skier, propelling the rider to a whole new level of skiing. Furthermore, our skis have been tested and proven around the world in freeskiing competitions by riders Kevin O’Meara and Drew Tabke. The Praxis Team, including its craftsmen, regularly fuel the company with the fresh ideas and critical feedback necessary in the never-ending pursuit of the perfect turn.”
It’s not easy for the small guys of ski craftsmanship to make it in a mass-produced industry driven environment, but year after year Praxis continues to stoke new users out and build planks that are more innovative and overall fun for the skier. Back in the early 2000′s I like many powder junkies fell in love with the transformation brought on by the Volant Spatula. Shane McConkey’s legacy to the ski world is immeasurable as his ideas and creativity changed the ski world with the design of the Spatula then, and they are still at the root of progressive ski technology today. At the time I didn’t think another tool could replicate the feel produced by the Spatula in deep fresh snow. Enter the Praxis Powderboards, my personal favorite model, and it was like someone took all the drawbacks of the Spatula, and tweaked the design and feel just enough to produce what many feel is one of the better powder skiing tools available today.
This past winter while working and skiing in Alaska we had a solid group of clients who came up and nailed perfect weather and conditions during our last week at camp with Points North Heli-Adventures. During that week no less than five pairs of Praxis skis were in use at any given time with four models representing. Not bad for a small business operating out of a equally small warehouse building skis by hand. In fact, co-guide Jeff Dostie and myself both skied the Praxis BPS skis regularly this season in Alaska and found them to be the best mixture of performance and tour-ability for a ski with a 132mm waist.
For this season Praxis is rolling out an even deeper quiver of sticks between their three primary series of touring, all mountain, and powder skis. There are 14 models to choose from with something for just about everyone. Among the many cool features that comes with skiing on Praxis skis is that owner Keith somehow manages to be as personable with every customer as he possible can. Praxis specializes in custom orders so you can contact Keith and talk directly to him about what you’re looking for. He and his crew will do whatever they possibly can to make your vision a reality. Don’t believe me? Email him and see what I’m talking about. Try that with a mass produced ski manufacturer.
For 2013 Praxis is also offering their customers the ability to choose any graphic from their graphic library linked here. They are also offering a diversity in terms of what flex pattern the customer feels will suit them depending on what type of skiing s/he wants to get into the most. How about a hybrid carbon/fiberglass layup or even a woodgrain topsheet? If you can dream it chances are Praxis can and will make it for you.
For this year’s pre-order sale the deals are dropping hard. Right now you can jump on the Praxis 50/50 payment plan where you can pay half of your bill at the time of order, and the remainder in just 30 days. From the company:
“Praxis Skis is now taking customized pre-orders at a special discounted price on 2013 models! Take one of the below models and customize it to make it fit you perfectly. The customization of flex and choice of graphic from our library are included in the low pre-order price.
For an additional cost you can upgrade to a Carbon Fiber-Fiberglass hybrid layup and create an incredibly damp ride with the best weight-to-stiffness ratio of any skis on the market. Also, the option to add a completely custom dye-sublimated graphic on your skis is available, or choose the factory favorite and create a classic look with one of our Wood Veneer top sheets.
Don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity to get a custom ski at wholesale pricing! Shipping will start September 1st with all models available to ship by October 1st. Please contact us with any questions. Shipping is available anywhere in the world!”

If you clicked on this post you owe it to yourself to at least take a look at the website, the Praxis blog, and all the sick skis Praxis is making available for 2013. You won’t regret it, and chances are if you do lock into a new pair for the 2012-2013 season you’ll be singing praises for Praxis just like every other skier who owns a pair, and be trying to talk your friends into jumping on the bandwagon as well.
